Training Tuesday

Oh hello all! Since I have been away for awhile, I thought today would be a good time to discuss my fitness/health goals for over the summer.

1. Drink more water
I can honestly go a whole day only drinking a drink at lunch and dinner.  Awful, I know.  I’ve been trying to up my water intake.. and I think it’s working due to the fact I went pee 6 times in the 1st 3 hours of work yesterday.
I’ve been trying to have tea in the morning, coffee, and 2 camelbaks full of water each day. So far during the week I’ve been doing great on this! The weekend.. not so much.

2. Cut out processed food. 
This has been a goal of mine for awhile and I am happy to say I really have cut down.  I probably only eat pretzels, popcorn or a granola bar every day.  The majority of my food is fruits, veggies, dairy and meat. Whoo! (This leads to a somewhat high grocery bill though.. and my college budget makes this hard)

1. Train for a half marathon
I’ve been contemplating running one for about 2 months now.  There is one in Rochester I did a relay for last year and I’m aiming for that one again.  I know I need to get up to 10 miles on a long run in order to do so.  I’ve been bumping up mileage, putting in speed workouts and slowly increasing the length of my long runs.  This week I’m aiming for 7. AHHH.

2. Keep up with weight-lifting.
I love lifting weights.  If you look at photos from me a year ago, my arms are SO much more toned now.  Since I’m trying to focus on running my weight sessions have only been occurring maybe 2x a week.  It’d be nice if I could get up to 3x but we shall see…

3. Avoid injury
My upper left foot has kind of hurt on and off for almost a week now.  It started hurting after my 6.5 mile long run last week.  I think it was because I tied that particular shoe too tight on my foot.  RUNNERS! Is this why or is it something else?! Help!

Training Plan for Week
Sunday-Kayaking, 3 miles, abs (CHECK)
Monday-10 min elliptical, 10 min rowing, arm workout, abs (CHECK)
Tuesday-3.5 mile speed run
Wednesday-4 mile run, abs
Thursday-5:30 BodyPump
Friday-7 mile run, abs
Saturday & Sunday-REST why you may ask?!

Am I excited?! Yeah.. maybe a little 😉

College students, how do you get produce etc cheap?

  1. This is actually hilarious – those are all of my goals too! Although I’m aiming to actually start weight lifting (one of these days!!). I’ve struggled with TONS of injuries as well, so that is one of my top priorities! Good luck with everything 🙂

  2. Best advice for cheap produce is to buy what’s in season and look into buying in bulk and splitting with a friend or two. Farmers markets are great too!

  3. Ugh, I understand the eating healthy on a college budget’s a challenge! When it comes to produce, I shop sales, hit multiple grocery stores (including the farmers market), and buy frozen once in a while. It’s annoying, but possible!
